The European Commission has approved a €59 million Slovenian state-aid scheme to support the deployment of 370 MWh of new standalone battery energy storage capacity. The programme forms part of the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal and will provide direct construction grants, with support determined according to each project’s estimated investment cost. By expanding storage capacity, Slovenia aims to integrate more renewable electricity while improving grid stability, reliability, efficiency and security of supply.
The scheme was approved under the Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework, which remains in force until the end of 2030 and is designed to accelerate clean-energy investment and industrial decarbonisation. Funding will come from the EU Just Transition Fund and the ETS Modernisation Fund. The initiative follows other European storage-support programmes, including a €150 million Romanian scheme targeting at least 2,174 MWh of capacity, as well as earlier measures approved for Lithuania, Spain, Czechia and Poland.
