R.Power secures €46 million financing package and advances BESS project construction

In brief

R.Power has secured a €46 million debt financing package from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Poland’s Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego to advance one of Romania’s largest utility-scale battery energy storage projects. The Scorniçesti project in Olt County will be a 127 MW/254 MWh standalone BESS, is already under construction, and is scheduled to begin operation in late 2026 or early 2027. The project is co-owned by R.Power and Eiffel Investment Group through its managed fund Eiffel Transition Infrastructure.

The financing includes €44 million in investment and bridge financing from EBRD, while BGK will provide a €2.3 million bank guarantee limit connected to the project’s long-term optimisation contract with GEN-I. R.Power says Romania is a priority market for battery storage because BESS projects can help align growing renewable generation with customer demand. EBRD described Romania as an emerging frontrunner in Southeastern Europe’s clean energy transition, with storage expected to strengthen grid resilience and create new opportunities for renewable energy developers.
