Sonnedix secures €730m Southern Europe financing

In brief

Sonnedix has secured €730 million in financing to refinance, optimise and construct renewable energy assets across France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. The funding covers solar photovoltaic plants with a combined capacity of approximately 540 MW, along with two battery energy storage projects. Italy accounts for the largest portion of the financing, representing more than 350 MW of capacity. The transaction supports Sonnedix’s continued expansion in its principal Southern European markets.

The financing will also provide a platform for adding battery storage to Sonnedix’s existing solar portfolio, improving the flexibility, resilience and commercial value of its renewable assets. Nine banks participated in the transaction, including ING, Santander, UniCredit and Société Générale. Sonnedix, which has a global portfolio of 12 GW, said the agreement will give it greater financial flexibility to accelerate its development pipeline and expand its energy-storage capabilities across Europe.
