Forus Oy has selected Elisa Industriq’s Gridle to optimise and operate 15 MW of battery energy storage across two sites in Finland. The assets include a 5 MW/10 MWh battery in Imatra and a 10 MW/20 MWh battery in Sodankylä, both designed to support grid balancing and flexibility as Finland integrates more renewable power. The projects are being implemented through Imatran Akku Oy and Sodankylä Akku Oy, while Suomen Sähköverkot Oy, backed by Finnish private investors, has acquired a majority stake in them.
Gridle will act as route-to-market provider, optimiser and market operator, connecting the batteries to electricity markets and managing their participation in balancing and wholesale markets. Forus said it chose Gridle for its operational reliability, market expertise and experience with critical infrastructure, while Gridle highlighted the need for continuous optimisation, accurate forecasting and reliable operation in changing market conditions. The Imatra and Sodankylä projects are part of Forus’s wider effort to expand energy storage and renewable energy assets across Finland.
